Many of us will, at some stage in our career, experience ‘Imposter Syndrome'; a feeling of inadequacy that persists despite evidence to the contrary. These feelings can make it harder for us to take opportunities and progress in our careers. Whether starting a new role, taking on new responsibility or just in our everyday routines, bottling up this sensation of chronic self-doubt can have a real impact on our confidence. However, this feeling may be more widespread than we realise and when we have the opportunity to talk about it we can start to tackle it.

Join the IMA Early Careers Mathematician Committee for this Virtual Maths Tea (VMT) where we will share our experiences of imposter syndrome in our different roles and everyday lives. We will talk about the ways we manage feelings of self-doubt in our universities and workplaces, and discuss how we can support those around us with similar experiences. We will share resources and tips for managing imposter syndrome. If you are keen to talk with others about their shared experiences, or if you simply want to learn more about imposter syndrome, join us for this informal lunchtime chat on 20th February. By sharing our experiences, we hope to build a community of like-minded people who can support and uplift each other.
