ECM VMT: Maths for Leisure
A virtual Maths Team (VMT) hosted by the Early Career Mathematicians Committee

Details

When? Friday 27 June 2025, 12:00 to 13:00
Where? Online via zoom

Most of us are familiar with mathematics in an educational or professional setting, but how many of us have extended our love for the subject into our leisure time? Mathematics is not only calculus, geometry and algebra, but it is also solving problems, finding patterns and building structures. Discovering new ways to enjoy mathematics as a hobby can unlock a new fun and rewarding side to the subject. Join us for this VMT hosted by the IMA Early Careers Mathematician Committee, where we will discuss the various ways in which we pursue maths as a hobby. Whether you like to solve puzzles, read popular science books, practice your programming skills or teach yourself new topics, we want to hear how you enjoy recreational mathematics in your free time. We will be sharing tips, resources and advice for those looking to turn maths into a new pastime. If you are a seasoned maths-hobbyist, just at the beginning of your journey into mathematics for fun, or simply curious to learn more, come and connect with others who share your interest in an informal, online setting. A Virtual Maths Tea (VMT) is an online event hosted by the Early Career Mathematicians committee where we invite participants to join us for an informal discussion about a topic related to mathematics or the mathematics community.
