Physical sciences, economics, social sciences, biology, chemistry, business and management, medicine, linguistics, computer science, engineering and mechanics: mathematics rarely exists in isolation. In practice, many mathematicians find themselves working across different fields and interest in "interdisciplinary mathematicians" is increasing. Being a cross-disciplinary mathematician requires skills in scientific communication, problem solving and collaboration with experts in different subject areas.
In a Virtual Maths Tea (VMT) hosted by the IMA Early Career Mathematicians Committee we will discuss what it means to be an interdisciplinary mathematician and the increasing demand for them in industry. We will share thoughts and advice on how to develop relevant skills and learn about topics outside of our usual expertise. We invite anyone who identifies as an interdisciplinary mathematician or who has interest in the area to join us for an informal discussion on working with maths in different fields.
