PhD students conduct impactful research and contribute to mathematical knowledge. Whilst doing so, PhD students also face large amounts of pressure and encounter numerous setbacks.
In this VMT hosted by the IMA Early Career Mathematicians Committee we invite current, past and prospective PhD students to share thoughts and advice in an informal discussion about how to make the most of your PhD experience. We will discuss strategies to combat isolation and build resilience as well as what to look for when applying for a PhD program. By facilitating wider discussion, we will hope to uncover how to not just survive, but thrive, in your PhD experience.
A Virtual Maths Tea (VMT) is an online event hosted by the Early Career Mathematicians committee where we invite participants to join us for an informal discussion about a topic related to mathematics or the mathematics community. If the topic of this VMT is not for you but you would like to join one in the future, please check the events page for all of our upcoming VMTs.
