Brooklands Museum Super Visit 2024
**BY INVITATION ONLY TO THE 2024/25 MATHS SCHOLARS AND ALUMNI OF THE MATHS SCHOLARSHIPS**
Details
When? Saturday 14 December 2024, 10:00 to 16:00
Where? Brooklands Road, Weybridge, Surrey
Maths Scholars will enjoy FREE ENTRY to Brooklands Museum for the day, including a group tour that introduces the museum's rich motorsport and aviation history while showcasing key exhibits and the fascinating stories behind them. You'll also take part in the exciting Supersonic Workshop.
Beyond these activities, you'll have the freedom to explore the motorsport exhibitions, aviation collections, and interactive experiences at Brooklands Museum at your own pace.
The Supersonic Numbers workshop builds of the work of German-British mathematician Joanna Weber. While working at Brooklands, Joanna developed equations relating the speed of a plane to the angle of the shockwave it creates when travelling faster than the speed of sound. This led to the iconic delta-wings of the Concorde fleet, which were later built at Brooklands. During this workshop, you will learn about supersonic flight, Weber's work, and have a chance to walk through the first Concorde plane to take passengers. You'll be able to fold and fly your own paper aeroplane, then calculate its maximum theoretical speed.
